Profile
Thank your for your interest in visiting my website. My name is Dan Lingenfelter. I am a graphic designer with over 20 years of professional experience in the design industry. I have created this site to provide professional information about myself including, education, work history, skills, and a little bit of personal information thrown in for good measure.
I currently reside in Akron, OH with my wonderful wife and daughter. I work in the quaint but progressive city of Wadsworth, OH for a small design firm named Eyedeal Graphics. I enjoy graphic design and more importantly, I enjoy helping individuals and businesses develop their professional identity and branding both in print and on the web.
Not originally from Ohio, I grew up in the farmlands of northwestern Pennsylvania near the small, primarily industrial city of Corry, PA where I lived until my high school graduation in 1989. My college career found me deep in the snow belt of New York State’s Southern Tier in the very small community of Houghton, NY. There I attended and graduated from Houghton College with a Bachelors degree in Art and a concentration in Graphic Design. Completing my four year degree in 1993, I jumped directly into my graphic design career taking a summer job in newspaper layout production for The Chautauquan Daily – the official newspaper of the Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua, NY.
The next several years of my nomadic career path moved me to the Chicago suburb of Saint Charles where I worked for a year as a layout designer producing artwork for desk calendars. I then moved to the Las Angeles area pursuing a short term missions opportunity as a presentation “tech” with Camfel Productions. I moved back to Pennsylvania in 1995 to work for a second season with the Chautauquan Daily newspaper and then traveled again to Saint Charles, IL the following fall working as a freelance designer for The Evengelical Alliance Mission (TEAM) in Wheaton, IL.
My professional design career began to gain some stability when I moved to the Akron, OH area in 1996 finding work in a small advertising agency as a production designer creating newspaper ads for car dealerships. It was during this time that the general population was just starting to “get the buzz” about the internet and world-wide-web. I had no previous “programming” experience with the exception of messing around with BASIC back in the 80’s on my old Radio Shack TRS-80, but I did have a desire to learn how I could evolve my passion for graphic design into a more interactive medium. I found a local ISP, got on the web, began to learn HTML myself, and launched my first personal website a few weeks later on the hosting account that my ISP bundled with their connection service.
My next job position reverted me back to my newspaper roots as I found work in the advertising design department of Akron’s Leader Publications newspaper. My primary responsibilities at the leader included general layout of weekly newspaper ads and specialty graphics appearing in the publication, but more noteworthy was my break into professional website development when I created and maintained the 1.0 version of the publication’s website.
I welcome you to continue browsing through the remainder of the site (if you have not already). Be certain to consider my resume which provides a description of my career to the present time and my portfolio which features a cross section of my design work for logos, printed materials, and websites. Thanks again for visiting and your interest in my website.
